Christmas is quickly approaching. If you’re still looking for the perfect gift, then we have a great idea for you. Why not give the gift of sight this year? See what we did there? In all seriousness, however, we have put together a gift guide featuring some items that will not only bring a smile to your loved one’s faces but will also help their vision. Here’s what we’ve included in our 2021 gift guide.
Calling everyone who loves the outdoors, especially runners! goodr sunglasses are the shades you have been looking for. At KWM Eyecare, we love these stylish sunglasses because they are both protective and affordable. In fact, goodr is focused on four “F’s” - “fun, fashionable, functional, and ‘ffordable.’” Yes, that is how they spelled “affordable.” These sunglasses have polarized polycarbonate lenses and block out UV light. goodr sunglasses start at $25, and you can purchase a pair for the runner on your list at our office.
Does your loved one need new glasses, sunglasses, or an eye exam? Then a KWM Eyecare gift card is the perfect gift that truly keeps on giving. Stop by and see any of our front desk staff members to purchase a gift card so you can give the gift of sight this year.
Most kids young in age and young at heart love word search puzzles. For young kids, word search puzzles can help improve eye tracking, which means you are able to follow a moving object with your eyes or can move your eyes effortlessly to follow a target, like the letters on the word search page to form the words. Parents, if you have noticed your child is struggling when reading because they are skipping words, easily losing their place, or having to constantly use their finger to keep track of where they are, then your child could be dealing with tracking issues. Plus, word search puzzles are great for your brain. While creating our guide, we also came across word search puzzles that were specifically designed for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. These puzzles use familiar words to help spark conversation and encourage them to remember moments from their younger years. Overall, we feel that word search books are a great gift for anyone on your list.
Winter may not be the best time to go fishing outside, but it is the perfect time to grab a rod and reel inside. Let’s Go Fishin’ is a fun, challenging game the whole family can enjoy. It features colorful fish that “swim” around, and your job is to catch more fish than your opponent. Just like solving word search puzzles, this game helps kids with eye tracking. It also, however, is a great activity for depth perception development. Depth perception is the ability we have to see objects in three dimensions. Those dimensions are length, width, and depth. People who mainly rely on one eye to see can struggle with this. Kids who deal with blurred vision, nerve problems, strabismus, and amblyopia may struggle with depth perception. Strabismus is where the eyes are misaligned and do not focus in the same direction. You may have heard this referred to as “crossed eyes.” Strabismus can develop into amblyopia, which some refer to as having a “lazy eye. Amblyopia impedes a child’s vision from developing properly. You can find Let’s Go Fishin’ at most retail stores and online.
Ah, puzzles! The perfect activity to pass the time and develop spatial awareness. Being able to understand how objects move and fit into spaces is important. The great thing about this gift is that you can find a puzzle that is age-appropriate for every person on your list.
The World of Disney Eye Found It Card Game challenges kids from “1 to 92,” as the famous Christmas song says, to use your eyes to find hidden objects in images. It also features characters that we all know and love. This game will make the perfect stocking stuffer. You can order it online or pick it up at most retail stores
We hope our gift guide has provided you with some great ideas. One thing we should point out is that we chose to feature activities that will give your eyes a break from the blue light by electronic devices. Happy holiday shopping, and we hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
